Waste Transfer Station, Bacup

Hughes:O’Hanlon was appointed by Caulmert to deliver this key infrastructure project for Rossendale Borough Council.

A re-development of the Authority’s current waste site, the new Waste Transfer Station will provide for the sorting of wider waste collections before onward transportation, with the brief for the scheme developed in close collaboration with the client and design team.

The new 1,750m² facility offers a significant improvement on the existing depot which had become unsuitable due to recent changes in landfill legislation.

The majority of activities will take place within the new building, which includes odour control and fire suppression to significantly improve amenities for neighbouring residents and businesses. A further 700 m² of covered external canopy area will provide additional protection to neighbouring properties.
