Our Practice

We are highly experienced across a wide range of sectors and building types including residential, industrial, commercial, leisure and emergency services. We understand the dialogue required to achieve successful architecture and are proud to have nurtured many long-standing client relationships.

We believe buildings or places should combine functionality (does it work?), durability (will it last?) and delight (does it look good?). The key is balancing these qualities.

We understand our privilege as architects is to be able to use our talents wisely for the greater good; the buildings we design will be used for many years to come. We strive to think optimistically, push at boundaries, show that there is a better way.

We believe our buildings should be underpinned by a powerful idea; the idea should be an intelligent and logical response to functionality and a sense of place; and the power of that idea should be embedded in the built form.

In that way, our clients get the buildings they need, and society gets the architecture it deserves.

We believe the power of architecture extends much further than the dimensions of individual buildings. We should locate buildings firmly within their context - not as slavish repetition but as a considered and sensitive response to site, materiality, amenity, scale, culture, context and history, letting these influence material choice and composition, actively and confidently participating in their setting rather than being merely deferential. We should 'tread carefully but build with conviction’.

The final form emerges not from any formal pre-conceptions but from the process of exploring these aspects to see what emerges. Following these fundamentals results in a house style based on process, not form or fashion.

Our buildings will therefore be different from one another, but this happens as a result of the approach and not due to a quest for novelty.
